Executive coaching

Sandler Training's Executive Coaching clients are Senior Leaders who face business or career challenges and need the outside perspective of a trusted advisor to help them navigate through to deliver key results.

Our approach is customized for each individual and company.  It begins with an understanding of the client's goals and objectives and where they are today.  We identify the challenges they face, and then build a plan together to address what is most pressing or important first.

Common Problems We See

Leaders:

  • Have no one objective to talk about business challenges
  • Can't seem to get focused
  • Am feeling stuck
  • Feel overwhelmed by all the work that isn't getting done
  • Am too busy working IN the business to focus ON the business
  • Am having a hard time holding my staff accountable
  • Struggling to prioritize the work, build a plan
  • Need to make major changes in organization and I'm uncomfortable
  • Know I am part of the problem but don't know how to change
  • Am winging it

If you face one or more of these problems, Executive Coaching may be helpful.

Executive Coaching can help you if you are ready to make a commitment to:

  • Take a hard, objective look at yourself - warts and all
  • Change behaviors and beliefs that are ineffective
  • Build new skills and supporting systems

Coaching is a transformation process.  Progress and results are directly related to how much energy and effort you put into making the change.  Your coach is your guide in the process, but you have to do the work.

If we decide to work together, you can expect to:

  • Be challenged.
  • Change behaviors which are not delivering results
  • Change negative self-limiting beliefs that are holding you back
  • Build new skills and get fresh perspective
  • Do homework after every meeting...Yep, every meeting

Typical client results include improvements in:

  • Individual Performance and Productivity
  • Organizational Performance
  • Employee Engagement
  • Recruitment Outcomes and Retention Rates
  • Succession Planning and Leadership Development
  • Bottom Line Business Results - Profit, Revenue, Cash Flow

Are you ready?

If you are...This is a list of traits that Trusted Advisors have in common. You may find it useful in selecting the Trusted Advisor that is right for you. The list is taken from the book, THE TRUSTED ADVISOR. Copyright D. Maister, C. Green and R. Galford. Used with permission.

Trusted advisors:

  1. Seem to understand us, effortlessly, and like us
  2. Are consistent (we can depend on them)
  3. Always help us see things from fresh perspectives
  4. Don't try to force things on us
  5. Help us think things through (it's our decision)
  6. Don't substitute their judgment for ours
  7. Don't panic or get overemotional (they stay calm)
  8. Help us think and separate our logic from our emotion
  9. Criticize and correct us gently, lovingly
  10. Don't pull their punches (we can rely on them to tell us the truth)
  11. Are in it for the long haul (the relationship is more important than the current issue)
  12. Give us reasoning (to help us think), not just their conclusions
  13. Give us options, increase our understanding of those options, give us their recommendation, and let us choose
  14. Challenge our assumptions (help us uncover the false assumptions we've been working under)
  15. Make us feel comfortable and casual personally (but they take the issues seriously)
  16. Act like a real person, not someone in a role
  17. Are reliably on our side and always seem to have our interests at heart
  18. Remember everything we ever said (without notes)
  19. Are always honorable (they don't gossip about others, and we trust their values)
  20. Help us put our issues in context, often through the use of metaphors, stories, and anecdotes, (few problems are completely unique)
  21. Have a sense of humor to diffuse (our) tension in tough situations
  22. Are smart (sometimes in ways we're not)

Abby has been my executive coach for over three years. I would highly recommend Abby as she has helped me improve my own effectiveness and self confidence leading to   great personal and professional success.

Abby creates a comfortable, professional environment that fosters open dialog and sets the stage for personal growth.  One of Abby's key strengths is her ability to listen and ask good questions.  This strength leads to candid conversations that allow me to work on the core of the issues I face.  As a business owner, a real benefit for me, is to have the opportunity to talk with someone in a confidential environment who understands what it is like to be a business owner, as well as someone with significant experience in a large corporate environment. I believe this experience gives Abby great insight into what I face on a daily basis and provides her with a well developed sense of intuition.  Abby's intuition leads to the ability to help me think through situations, provide options, challenge assumptions, and to do all this with a sense of calm.  Abby is a smart, dedicated, engaging, professional with the ability to help a person identify and improve areas in their life that they want to improve.  As, I stated earlier, I would recommend Abby to anyone interested in creating more success and happiness in their life.

Sincerely yours,

I worked with Abby during a critical transition in my business, when my focus needed to shift from delivering consulting services, to developing business.  Abby was invaluable to me in help me to:

  • - Focus on a relationship-centered networking strategy
  • - Create a first draft of web-site copy
  • - Identify my "brand essence"
  • - Generate numerous alternatives for building the business

Perhaps most valuable to me was Abby's intense capacity to listen, clarify, and at times, to reframe my thinking.  She gracefully took on numerous roles as I needed them:  cheerleader, challenger, advisor, colleague, and partner.

Working with Abby was one of the best decisions I have ever made.  When I began working with her, I was unhappy, dissatisfied with my job and my life and greatly lacking self-confidence in my abilities.  She helped me to identify my strengths and accomplishments, to generate a powerful resume, and to determine what I really want out of my career.  She also helped me to gain control of my financial affairs in order to pay off my credit card debt.  Now I have a rewarding and challenging career in a field I enjoy. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking a change in their career.

Dear Abby:

Your presentation at our March 18 meeting was outstanding in every way! We heard so many favorable comments afterwards about your positive energy, especially as it pertained to individuals 'revisiting' their priorities and achieving professional goals. I heard one associate mention he was setting up an appointment with you immediately!

Sincere thanks, Abby.
